FemTechNet DOCC 2014
In 2014, a consortium of feminist scholars from over 17 institutions initiated the first DOCC: Distributed Open Collaborative Course, meant to be a feminist response to the top-down structure and methodology of MOOCs. A section of the DOCC, “Imagining Gender: Exploring Narratives of Technology” was taught at Macaulay Honors College by Lisa Brundage and Instructional Technology Fellow Emily Sherwood. The class learned basics of feminists theories of gender and technology, and worked together to produce a digital companion to Margaret Atwood’s novel The Year of the Flood. Brundage and Sherwood also collaborated with faculty at other institutions to build the FemTechNet commons.
