“The Bridge” – Makerspace
“The Bridge” is an emergent technology lab, classroom, and makerspace opened in the Fall of 2013 supported by the Department of Academic Computing and Educational Technology. The space supports a variety of activities – electronics, robotics, computer programming, 3D printing, woodworking, and even sewing – to serve as a resource center used by different classes and in different contexts.
A primary goal of the new space is to allow for students to work through unstructured problems, where the solutions are not preconceived and the process is not simply an exercise. They can be asked to research a problem and invent something to solve that problem. The hope is to engage faculty from a variety disciplines and work with them to find ways of incorporating these types of projects into their teaching and research.
