Morris, John P. . “The Hidden Economics of Campus Sustainability .” APPA Facilities Manager. 2005: n. page. Web. 19 Oct. 2012. <http://www.appa.org/FacilitiesManager/article.cfm?itemnumber=2316&parentid=2309>.

The author of this article is John P. Morris, who was until recently the manager of facilities at Colorado State University, and is now a physical plant director at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Morris uses this article to state the usually unmentioned economic benefits of campus sustainability. He mentions the lesser known benefits of campus sustainability, such as the avoidance of expensive utility plant investment fees, emission equipment installations or upgrades, utility infrastructure upgrades, maintenance services , improvement in the quality of the indoor environment, free publicity, and a recruiting tool. The article’s intended audience consists of operation managers in college campuses.

This article has a pro-sustainability bias. The strengths of this article is that it adds to the economic benefits of campus sustainability. The disadvantages of this article is that it does not focus enough on the social pillars of sustainability in addition to the environmental and economic pillars. This information is relevant in terms of my project and I envision using this material to display an example of how campus sustainability could have a positive effect economically.
