Furthermore, The Lower East Side has been settled by people immigrating from all over the world. In the 1940s many people came to The Lower East Side from Europe (though there were a few immigrants  from other parts of the world). This is a map that highlights the European countries which most of these immigrants originated from, and the general number of people that settled in The Lower East Side from each of these countries.

More recently, the immigrants have mainly come from other parts of the world, such as the Far East and South and Middle America. This is a map which highlights the places in the world that most of these immigrants originated from (based on 2010 data), and the general number of people that settled in The Lower East Side from each of these areas.

One clear indication that the area is becoming more upperclass is the rise in average household income. Even after inflation adjustment, the income at each 10 year census period has shown tremendous increase from the previous income level, and the 2010 average income seems to have continued the trend, in spite of the 2008 recession.
