Introduction to Long Island City
Long Island City is a neighborhood located in Western Queens along the East River. It is surrounded by Astoria and Sunnyside to its north and west, respectively. The neighborhood, which is only a short subway ride away from Manhattan and a short drive away from Manhattan, Eastern Queens and Brooklyn, has made significant growth in terms of becoming more residential and contemporary while still maintaining part of its original industrial and commercial character.

Personal assessment: Long Island City is a neighborhood filled with diverse art forms and opportunities for different experiences. It is a wonderful neighborhood to escape to if you are looking to experience art forms that are not as dominant in Manhattan or any other part of New York City. It also has an extensive history for a neighborhood of its size. However, due to its history as a commercial and industrial area, the level of vibrancy compared to that of Manhattan just across the East River can improve. As the NYC government takes further steps in redeveloping the area and making it more residentially friendly and inviting, I believe that Long Island City will flourish.
