Brighton Beach was an early destination due to its location near the water. But, as more immigrants arrived, Brighton Beach ran low on affordable housing. In response, many younger immigrants relocated elsewhere, including Bensonhurst, where they could get larger and more upscale housing. Bensonhurst was also near Brighton Beach, which was an added bonus. Due to the influx of new immigrants, Bensonhurst’s makeup changed.
