I was by 72nd street this week, and I usually don’t look around, rather, go straight to where I need to go, like most New Yorkers I guess. However, while I was about to go down the stairs, this photo caught my eye. A clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds and one simple word, “Dream.” I think that’s a parallel as well as an irony to today’s society. We dream of having world where our ideals become a reality. For some, that may be the fight for our environment, politics, hunger, poverty, anything. However, we often hear the phrase, “that’s how the world works.” I heard it this week in a different class where we were discussing the college admissions scandal, I heard it during a discussion in a class about this Friday’s stand against climate change that is led by a 16-year old. One thing to note, is that a girl who is 16 is leading a global movement. That’s 2019. There is nothing that we can’t begin. What remains uncertain is the follow through of our dreams and aspirations. We are at the age where our dreams, ambitions, hopes, are sky-high. Why stop here? Instead show the world, what can be done, what will be done.

I totally agree with the idea of dreaming big and it is an interesting place to put it by the subway. I see it that this type of ad is supposed to influence many people who walk through the subway even subconsciously and it is with that motive that people go to work every day. Yet, there’s a difference between the idea of dreaming and being realistic. One should take note that the uncertainty within society is something one should be humbled about because it is through uncertainty that one can grow as a person and become better. Yet, people need to be realistic as well in their goals and what they think they could accomplish but those who think otherwise: THE SKY’S THE LIMIT!!!!
