There was an article in The NY Times yesterday that I thought related to the conversation about immigration we had not too long ago. It talks about Chinese women who come to the US with tourist visas (completely legal) for the sake of giving birth here. Their children are then automatically made US citizens and are then taken back to China. The article mentions that immigration experts suspect this is done as a sort of insurance policy should they want to immigrate to the US in the future. In light of our conversation about making residents, albeit illegal, US citizens, I thought this was an interesting twist: non-US residents who are complete legal US citizens. Enjoy!
