This article’s main purpose is to publicize the issue of climate change. It serves as propoganda to inform, educate, persuade, and even entertain. McKibben addresses the dangers of mother nature slowly depleting and how this problem is not really considered to be an actual thing. He connects the reader to this dilemma when he states that “We are all actors in this drama, more of us at every moment.” This shows that every single person is responsible and needs to take a step toward replenishing or stabilizing our environment. However, this is a difficult task due to the rapid advancements of technology. Nobody wants to give up what they have. We enjoy these pleasures and luxuries. Things would get hectic if anyone even tried to take them away. McKibben knows that climate change is not seriously taken because it is promoted by media as a joke. An example would be the movie 2012, which consists of ridiculous super-disasters. These type of movies make worldwide apocalyptic occurrences look normal, adventurous, and fun. It is possible that climate change will not become a real concern until leading nations are hit hard.
