Look at the bigger picture, Won Sik!
Upon reading the article by Bill McKibben “What the warming world needs now is art, sweet art,” I faced this very philosophical, yet extremely simple truth of life. When I read something, I tend to focus on some liens that inspire me or give me life lessons. The line that I want to focus on today is this: “It may well be that because no one stands outside the scene, no one has the distance to make art from it.” One day, in a sermon in my church, the pastor asked me to come up to the front, and asked me to close my eyes. He asked me, “What do you see Won Sik?” while putting a pencil right in front of my eyes. I answered that I see a blue circle. However, the essence of the thing that I saw was a pencil. I saw a blue circle only because it was help up so close to me. Same applies to this warming world. I have to get out of my own situation, perspective, and way of approach. I need to step back to see the bigger picture. Then, I will be now able to see what’s really going on in this world. I feel like i am still standing in the same position, not wanting to step out of my comfort zone. But, I hope i will one day to acknowledge the urgency of this situation.
