My Night at the Museum
Night at the Museum was one of my favorite movies as a kid, so it was very exciting to actually be able to walk around a museum in the middle of the night. And just like in the movie, the pieces actually started coming to life the longer I stayed in the museum. It was my first time going to the Brooklyn Museum, so it was a lot of fun looking at all of the different paintings. I was glad that I got to meet and converse with other Macaulay students outside of the Lehman campus. Even after my group finished with our task, we continued to wander about and comment on other pieces of art.
One painting that my group and I found interesting was a piece called “The Bowl” by Reginald Marsh. The painting was based off an amusement ride at Coney Island. The ride was known for putting people uncomfortably close together. I thought Marsh did a wonderful idea at creating a disorienting and chaotic environment in the painting. Since the piece was made during the Great Depression, I thought that painting was meant to represent the turbulence that many Americans faced at the time.
