One small planet, just one
“If we looked down at the world from space, we would not see any demarcations of national boundaries. We would only see one small planet, just one ” -Dalai Lama
What this quote says to me is that there are no differences between the people that lived in Africa and the people that lived here in the United States. We are all human beings that live on the same planet. We are all just as susceptible to the challenges and disasters that the planet throws at us. In regards to climate change, this quote implies that all of us are equally affect. Some more so that others because they do not have certain resources. It is up to us, not just a tiny group here or there, to make a difference.
I choose this quote specifically because we tend not to see the bigger picture in regards to the world. Us being human beings tend to live in our own little bubble of comfort. We like to believe that we deserve certain things and that our society needs certain things. We are so preoccupied with obtaining these meaningless items that we are destroying the planet just to fulfill our desires. But at what cost? How much longer can we keep up with this so called “consumerism” without causing third-world countries to further deteriorated to the point of no return?
I say this quote is a wake-up call to all of us. That there are others outside of our little comfort zones that are suffering from the consequences of OUR actions. We are not the only ones that live on this world. So we should pay more attention to what and how we do things rather than going at it blindly like always.
