A Call to Arms
With every article I read about climate change, the more strongly I feel about it. Even the first article was very persuasive, but I grow more passionate as I learn more about it. It shares the same general idea about getting together and fighting for improvement, yet this one focuses on a particular subject that I was more than happy to learn about. I have always wondered, “Could we possibly design renewable resources to the same efficiencies of today’s fossil fuels? At what cost(s) would that be?” This article gave me hope that the process of implementing alternatives are far into action. There are “fronts” and organizations all over the world persuading institutions to sell coal and oil stocks. There are many people involved and leaders will be able to witness, along with thousands of people, the seriousness and urgency of the issue on September 21st. I liked how Bill McKibben was able to convince readers that the march was incredibly important. He pointed out that the one thing we can do is pressure leaders into passing laws, because corporations would never do it on their own (most likely). They just keep working for the jobs and the money. That’s another idea that I loved– the idea that it’s okay to let go of some jobs, as long as it’s for this wonderful cause and of course, compensation will be provided through new, better jobs. The article painted a nice dream of clean air and healthy people. In my imagination, the temperature is just right, the sun is out, and everybody is smiling.
