We Need To Act!
Bill McKibben’s “A Call to Arms” is a summons to raise voice before the world leaders to demand some action for the prevention of climate change which is predicted to impact the Earth in a harmful manner. A few organizations from all across North America have organized this gathering to demonstrate their concern about global warming which Mckibben labels as a “dead-serious business”. This demonstration is going to take place a few days before Ban-Ki-moon along with other world leaders convene to discuss their actions to save Mother Earth from destruction before it is too late. McKibben’s article has a poignant edge to it like calling the climate change as the “biggest crises of our civilization” which perturbs us as we are aware that our ruthless behavior has caused this damage and if we don’t put an end to it now, it will get worse and nothing will be left for our future generation. Like McKibben’s previous article “What the warming world needs now is art, Sweet art”, this article is equally persuasive and although the first article made me conscious about the ongoing destruction to our planet, this one really makes me passionate about the subject and compels me to do something as the urgency of this issue requires all of the human beings to reverse the damage caused by them. As mentioned by Mckibben, the upcoming march is going to be the largest demonstration of humans in the face of climate change because we have not taken any major action to show our concern and tackle this problem. Regarding to our ignorance to the subject of climate change, Mckibben tries to convince all of us to attend the event because doing so will reduce the exploitation of the poor countries by the developed ones as we all are aware that third world countries do not have the ability to adapt to the changing climate like the developed countries.
