My Mind is Partially Blown (Does that make sense?)
I think the title of my post pretty much explains my reaction to the second part of Climate Changed. In this part of the graphic memoir, Phillipe Squarzoni introduces the scientific component of global warming. I already knew about the concentration of carbon dioxide and the other natural gases that are present in the atmosphere. But I was surprised by how much of the scientific data was completely foreign to me. Before reading this section I had absolutely no concept of what halocarbons were and their frightening effect on the atmosphere. As far as I remember, the other readings that we have read as a class mainly focused on CO2 rather than the other gases present in the environment. I don’t recall any of the other readings mentioning anything about methane, ozone, or halocarbons. While CO2 is a major component of climate change, I am glad that Squarzoni brought some attention to the harmful effects of the other gases that are created from human activity.
