Courage in the Midst of Darkness
We see a man sitting alone in the darkness who writes and writes… and writes about the collapse of our dear earth. He teaches us that, in less than 2 centuries, the concentration of CO2 has gone up 30 percent, and the amount of methane has doubled. Also, don’t forget that the number of halocarbons has increased to a frightening amount which can last for thousands of years. Well, doesn’t that just sound depressing?!
But, surprisingly, the hardest part was actually seeing images of the protagonist looking at the essay, his sweet art. There is such a silence in his eyes from the fear of listing down all the ways that humans are destroying nature such as the ice caps, trees, or even bees. I felt that just reading the chapter was terrifying to me; it’s difficult thinking about the possibility of the world ending at the year 2030. Even so, the main character incredibly takes on the daunting task of creating an entire book on this issue. What an act of courage! Because of his valor, he has earned my utmost respect.
