What is art…? (cue Haddaway song)

I noticed this little guy when we were listening to the spoken word performance. He was hopping about and landed on the top of the high-line gate. I was fascinated by his bravery because after I snapped the picture he came really close to Lauren and I, probably trying to get some Chipotle. I really love the contrast of the large iron structure to the stature of the bird. Despite how dwarfed he is by the gate, the bird can still fly away. He has that freedom.

 

 

 Art is TANGLED

Immediately after taking the first picture, I knew what type of photo I wanted to take. It didn’t take very long to find the perfect “model”. The vines are beautiful, the full picture didn’t fit. But the plant has taken the liberty to intertwine itself with the fence. In the first image the subject was the bird and how it was free. In this image, the subject isn’t the vines, but rather the fence. It lacks the freedom that the bird has because the vines have it trapped.
