City or Forest?

If it were not for the class MHC 350, I would have never visited the International Center for Photography. I am extremely thankful for the trips we are having because not only am I learning more about the city, but also am learning more about the world.

The picture that caught my attention is the picture above. When I was glancing over the tropical and arctic photos in the Sanctuaries section, I thought this picture was an aerial view of the central park in Midtown Manhattan. At first I was puzzled because I thought “what is a picture of Central Park in Manhattan doing here?” Then I looked closer and what I thought to be skyscrapers turned out to be rock structures much like the Grand Canyon. I laughed to myself and thought that there are parallels in all communities and in all people if we just look close enough.

The caption on the side said, “Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. The Tsingy are found in the Melaky Region of western Madagascar, where the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park has been a UNIESCO World Heritage site since 1990. Magagascar 2010.” So I looked up the park and found out that the stone structures are referred to the stone forests which are home to hundreds of animals. It hurts to think that these beautiful places could be harmed because of human interference or climate change.
