Climate March made me proud of myself
I would not be lying if I said that I consider myself fortunate to be able to attend this climate march because a few of my Australian cousins wanted to attend this march but couldn’t make it because it was held in New York. This was the very first time I attended a march and it removed all the misconceptions about such walks in my mind. To be honest, I used to think that such walks are bogus and most people attend these because they have nothing else to do but when I saw a 90-year old lady walking with us holding a cane, I realized how passionate and concerned people are about our Earth and its climate. I saw little kids holding posters saying “I love our Earth” and “Let’s save our planet” which made me guilty of the wrong perception I had about such walks in general. I thought the march was going to be boring as we would just hold our posters and walk through the city but it was certainly more than that. We got to represent Macaulay and Lehman at the march for the first time which made us proud. I got to see people from all kinds of cultures and religions who contributed to the march in their own unique ways. For instance, I really found the group of Hindu people unique and amazing who were dressed up in their traditional outfit and danced and sang their devotional songs throughout the march.
All in all, it was one of the best experiences of my life in New York as it increased my passion for the issue of climate change which motivates me to further contribute to events like this one and I am grateful to Professor Perl for encouraging us to attend this march because attending this march really made me proud of myself for contributing in at least some way.
