We Just Walked.

I don’t even know how to begin to express the overwhelming sense of unity, joy, strength, and pride that I felt while on this march. It was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. There were so many people, and every time you made eye contact with them, it was like you saw each other and understood. We were all walking together, and though we were all absolute strangers, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of togetherness. Every time a new chant roared up from  the crowd, every time the drums began to play, every time we all began to clap and yell for no reason at all, it was like being liberated. The best part was seeing people come together from all walks of life, despite the difference in age, race, gender, or personality. There were so many interesting and witty signs and methods of getting attention, at one point I just stood on top of the police barriers to take a picture of it all. And getting that bird’s eye view made me so happy because I felt like I was part of something big, like this was the kind of event that might be marked down in textbooks. Seeing the multitude of faces and feeling the passion surge through the crowd as we marched on- that’s the kind of memory that will stay with me forever. And these are the kinds of days that will one day (soon) spark real revolutionary change.
