The More You Know, The Less You Know
This particular section of Climate Changed was a little unsettling for me. Squarzoni continues to provide more facts about global warming and share the information he learned from the climate experts. This time the facts on climate change did not disturb me; it was the questions. Even though there seems to be an overall consensus in the science community about the validity of the global warming, there is definitely not a consensus on what stage of climate change. Many figures that publicly strive to fight against climate change say, “We still have the potential to stop global warming! All we have to do is reduce our carbon emissions.” But it’s alarming to hear other experts say otherwise. James Hansen, an astrologist that is mentioned in this section even believes that the Earth has already reached the point of no return. Even if humans were able to drastically reduce their carbon emissions, there really is no telling if that will be enough to stop the planet from warming up. Part of me wonders if there is even a possibility for a brighter future ahead. While I am a firm believer in the power of optimism, an issue as serious as climate change should not be viewed through rose colored glasses.
