A Selfie of Sebastiao Salgado and me

As I was getting my ticket for the exhibit, there was a man standing next to me. After he left the ICP, the woman behind the counter told me that he was Salgado. I grabbed my bag and ran down the street to try and catch up to him. When I did, I thanked him for his amazing work and told him what we were doing as a class. I asked if I could take his picture and he said it should be of both of us. So he took my Iphone, but neither one of us was sure how to take a selfie. (That’s pretty funny in and of itself.)  So he took this picture backwards. We could not see ourselves. If we had, perhaps we would have tried for another one — we look pretty awful. But here we are on 6th Avenue.  IMG_0042

I am glad so many of you were drawn to his work. His wife, Leila, as this to say about the exhibit: “Genesis is….a visual tribute to a fragile planet that we all have a duty to protect.”

How true.
