Desmond Tutu at Lehman Intersections

The quote that caught my eye in the intersections was from Desmond Tutu who said “I am because you are.” I liked it because it was simple yet powerful. It expresses the shared dependence we have on each other as human beings. Our existence is dependent on someone else’s existence and recognizing this breeds a greater sense of peace among people , which is what Desmond Tutu is all about. I think it has a deserved place on the Lehman College Campus, and is definitely a extension of wisdom represented by the owl sculpture at the side gate of the campus.  College is a community and I think the quote epitomizes the idea of community. It’s cool to know its engraved on the stone and will be a part of Lehman forever.
