One step closer to the edge
In this section of climate changed there was much discussion in regards to whether we have reached a critical threshold regarding climate change and how urgent the matter is. Many scientist unfortunately believe that regardless of what actions we take today it is highly unlikely that we will stay below the 3.6 degree Fahrenheit threshold that has long been established as the turning point, the point in which our situation can go from bad to worse. I found Squarzoni’s dinner plate tipping over explanation helped a lot in understanding this idea of the 3.6 degree threshold. Like the dinner plate on the table we will not feel the full effects of global warming until it reaches a tipping point, like the plate reaching the edge of the table. When the plate goes over the table that is when we will truly see the big mess that we have caused and have to clean it up. The carelessness of our actions is much like pushing the plate little by little towards the edge, except with climate change imagine pushing the plate on the table in complete darkness, where we can not see or predict when we have reached the edge and if one more small push, a small change in temperature, will disrupt everything to the point of no return. I though this was a great analogy by Squarzoni.
