No Hope For The Future

The 4th part “The Tipping Point” of Squarzoni’s Climate Changed has a lot more text and explanation than the other parts and in this part, he talks about the critical numbers, predictions made by IPCC and various experts’ take on this issue of Climate Change. He also mentions various natural processes and their mechanisms like carbon cycle and water vapor cycle and relates them to the disasters of climate change that took place in the past like the European heat wave of 2003.

One of the phrases used in this part that stood out to me is “A time when we’ve already run out of time”. This has a distressing effect on me as it frightens me for the future and makes me agitated that how can people be so ignorant of such a grave issue concerning our Mother Earth.

On the other hand, I noticed that Squarzoni contradicts himself at some point and make us feel as if there is no hope left for the future and we must be ready for the upcoming destruction. For instance, at first he mentions that according to the predictions of IPCC, if we go beyond 3.6 degree Fahrenheit, we will reach that threshold after which every natural system will be destroyed and life would become hard on this planet because of the severe climate change. Then he says, no matter how much we try to control our CO2 emissions and stabilize the emission of greenhouse gases, we will definitely go beyond 3.6 degree Fahrenheit and will reach 4.5 degree Fahrenheit by the end of 21st century.  In other words, he is saying that we have no hope left for a better and safe future at all and we must face the consequences at some point which makes me feel helpless and frightened for the future.
