“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” -John 8:32
Walking down the Intersections Project at Lehman was so admirable and such a fascinating experience I had. First off, I don’t think I have ever been to that corner of Lehman before and second of all, even if I did, I don’t think I would stop to look down at the quote carvings on each block. So walking as a group and absorbing all these different sayings and quote was actually very inspiring and motivating. However, despite the numerous quote carvings the one that stood out to me was:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
-John 8:32
Being a Catholic myself, I read the Bible everyday so I felt like I was really able to relate to this Bible verse. I believe that the Biblical meaning to this verse is that the ‘truth’ refers to Jesus Christ, and to ‘know the truth’ is to have complete faith in him. Faith in Christ will set us ‘free’ refers to the eternal life that will be rewarded to us as a result of our faith.
Despite the Biblical meaning, I also thought this quote had a personal meaning. My mother always told me that whenever one lies, there will be many lies after it to cover the original lie. In other words, the lies keep building up and and you will soon feel imprisoned in guilt. This verse reflects the same meaning by saying that by telling the truth, even though you may get in trouble, will ultimately save you from guilt and provide you with a sense of relief.
This is a picture of my mother who thought me these valuable life lessons!
