Art is Plain, Art is Colorful
In the first picture on the left, the wall-like structure is plain and gray. Art is simple and does not need to be complex for it to be appreciated. An observer can infer or reflect upon its meaning depending on personal insight. Many simple things in art are symbolic of other deeper concepts. Although I do wonder why the Highline workers have left this structure for pedestrians to see. It induces a mood of melancholy and decomposition. To me, it symbolizes the old institutions or ideas in life that nobody really needs anymore. At one point, it must have had a purpose. This is more abstract and depends on the interpretations or emotions of the observer.
In the second picture on the right, the board has a colorful advertisement with people on it. Art can be intricate, and multifaceted. The people have different colored outfits on and are posing uniquely. This shows the beautiful aspects of brightness and subjectiveness. This can be used easily to attract attention or persuade someone to buy a product. Another contrast between both pictures is the perspective. The first picture has the object up close and taking up the whole shot. The second picture has the object from a distance. This also shows how with designs, one must take a better look at it to understand its meaning. With more vibrant designs, it is easy to understand and easily spotted from far away.
