Girlfriend REALLY Does Know Best

This section of Climate Changed continues to reiterate the idea that there is no definitive answer for what the future holds for global warming. One thing that is clear is that the effects of global warming will be different all over the planet. Some areas may experience serious droughts while other areas may experience large amounts of flooding. On pages 170 and 171, Squarzoni and his girlfriend talk about an image of the Earth from the 1972 Apollo mission. It is the only image of the Earth being perfectly round without any shadows. His girlfriend mentions that this common image of the Earth creates a false impression of the Earth and only allows people to have one vision of the world. To me this image of the Earth parallels with the various outcomes of climate change. When most people think of global warming, they only imagine the weather getting warmer. Not many people think of the plethora of other ecological effects that it can have. Moreover, many people believe that simply reducing CO₂ is the only thing that must happen to stop climate change. Not everyone takes into account the other man made substances that are being put into the environment. Besides being the comical relief in the graphic memoir, Squarzoni’s girlfriend brings up the important idea of looking at multiple perspectives. In order to effectively handle an issue like climate change,it is crucial to examine multiple perspectives instead of just trusting the common ideals we may have about it.
