Ah yes the question of beginnings
Squarzoni touches on a very good point in this section, the question of beginnings. I finally understand this! The question is not just where do we start talking about climate change but where do we start in trying to fix this problem? Unfortunately for us Squarzoni has told us time and time again that it is perhaps too late to fix things. In order for us to avoid that threshold of 2°C, widely believed to be the tipping point, we must cut our carbon emissions and for Americans specifically this is seems a near impossible task. We must reduce by at least 92%! and the U.S. being the country with the largest carbon footprint and with the highest standard of living, giving everything we know up seems unimaginable. I found the image of the child surrounded by seemingly mundane objects particularly powerful and I felt that it certainly got the point across. In order for us to do what’s right on out part we have to give up our commodities, things that may now seem to us as necessities. The question is how do we begin eliminating these things from our daily lives? I mean does that cheese burger or car ride really make a difference? Perhaps we can start cutting back tomorrow but not today, today it is hot and I’m going to turn on the air conditioner………..
