Consistency and Change is the Key

On p.183 Squarzoni starts to judge the people who drive 4x4s and really wonders why they continue to buy them even though they know it’s hurting the environment. Then he poses reasons why they may continue to buy these cars: “one more won’t make a big difference” “live life” “I don’t see why I should be the one who deprives myself” and honestly all these opinions are what sets us back in climate change. No one wants to take responsibility, but we have to. In my opinion there is no way to get people to stop buying 4x4s unless it is taken off the market. Because as long as cars that aren’t environmentally safe are on the market people will continue to buy them.

I also really appreciated how Squarzoni realized how judgmental he was being and decided to ask himself questions. When I do one thing for climate change I start to judge others who don’t but what I have to remember is that there is so much more to be done. Yes, one thing makes a difference but you have to make sacrifices at some point too. We have to take responsibility for our actions, and remember to be consistent in our own actions.
