Clutch Time
I connected Squarzoni’s perspective on endings to the ending of Memory of Water and he is so right. The ending of Memory of Water was sad and still mysterious. The novel reached its ending, but was I finished with it? No. I wanted more, leaving some sort of incompleteness. I’ll get over it eventually.
“The beginning of the end of the world is beginning.” We see this, the future of apocalyptic events and disasters. Yet we’re still calm? Yet we still manage to ignore the signs? Yet we still go on about our everyday lives? The huge question right now is “do we still have time?” But we’re definitely running out of time if we continue to wonder and not act. We think “how can we work against global warming?” and “how much time do we have before we reach the point of no return?” and “did we already reach the point of no return?” instead of putting plans on how to attack this treat of global warming into action. It’s as if this is the last few seconds of the fourth quarter and we’re down by one point, the coach (which is us) calls timeout and has the intention of winning the game, but doesn’t have a play drawn out for the team to carry out…
