I am highly upset
WHAT WAS THAT? I’m reading the novel, I turn to the next page and just like that there is no next page! the book ends…….I literally screamed WHAT! I know Itaranta did not just leave me hanging here with this book in my hand and so many questions left UNANSWERED! JEEZ.
Even as I knew what was going on and Noria’s death being foreshadowed at every turn in the last few pages I was still expecting…. well hoping that there would be a mega plot twist and that somehow Noria would be able to escape and her and Sanja would go off on their expedition. Then they would have found a utopia in the lost lands that was kept hidden by the military and soon Noria and Sanja would be remembered throughout time because they saved humanity from the death grip of the military, and starting a new era. I know that’s a little far fetched because they are only our age but who cares it’s a book and anything could happen.
Yet I was left asking myself….where did Sanja go? Did she also die? Is Noria’s mother really dead? What was it that Noria and Sanja discovered from the CDs? How is Nora’s death going to keep the Military from taking over the secret spring and claiming it as their own? There cant be an end with so many unanswered questions!!!
Though I am not particularly fond of stories that leave the end to interpretation I did in fact like that Itaranta was still able to reveal so much without actually saying much. I like that she was able to give us further insight on Taro and I really enjoyed the exchange that Noria and Taro had during the Tea ceremony. She had very powerful messages in this section alone like when Noria states ‘I believe that we must make hard choices every day despite knowing that there is no reward.’ or Taro’s contrasting point of view when he says ‘‘Because if this is all there is…..I might as well enjoy it while it lasts.’
Anyway I will stop here because with this ending I can go on and on.
