ending

Memory of Water ends left me so many unanswered questions. I was so confused whether Noria mother went to the lost lands or not and her mother died in there. The author did not tell us who the woman in the CDs was… and … and Noria died…. WHAT? She was THE tea master until at the end of the book. Commander Taro came to her and tried to persuade her to help army to use the spring but she refused and said “I believed that we must make hard choices every day despite knowing that there is no reward”. This comment was so powerful and had deep meaning that I really enjoyed. Yes, there is a lot of hard choices. Actually, life is making choices; in every situation, we are standing on the roads so many branches in there. We should choose a choice that we might not regret in the future.

Although Noria accepted her fate, the author expressed her death in poetic way. The author might know readers want a happy ending but she ended it with Noria’s death. Is it because for expressing a more dramatic ending? or expressing a tragedy of climate changed?

This book changed my imagination of future world a lot. Technology and Industry have developed a lot than those in my parent’s generation. I thought the world will be more developed in the future. I imagined future people will ride on their individual small spacecrafts instead of cars and no one thought how climate will be changed in this way. As I read this book, I started to think climate seriously.
