The City Life
I really enjoyed how the scene was set in this section and I think a parallel can be drawn between the way Squarzoni describes city living and where we are with climate change.
We slowly build our lives in the city, crossing bridges and going through doorways, all with the intention of just getting through the day. We spend time contemplating whether these bridges and doorways are worth it and whether its careful or reckless even though we still get on with it regardless.
Climate Change is really no different.
We slowly build out lives in this world, crossing obstacles and making choices, all with the intention of an easier life for ourselves in the moment and for the future. We may spend time contemplating whether we need that extra 15 minutes in the shower, or whether we should take the train or drive the car, or whether we should leave the faucet on when brushing our teeth. These small actions add to climate change and the greater problem of global warming, but we still get on with it regardless.
Whether this parallel was intentional or not, this small detail really made me think.
