Climate Change Is Still Considered An Insignificant Issue
Squarzoni talks about the rise in sea level in this part of the book, which reminds me of “The Memory of Water.” When he mentioned the countries that are facing consequences of rise in sea level, it reminded me of the “Lost Lands” mentioned by Itaranta and just the idea that countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and India might no longer exist in the future horrifies me because these countries are heavily populated and it would be impossible to accommodate these people if their countries become “Lost Lands”. Squarzoni also mentions a term “Climate Refugee” which is new for me and it just seems ridiculous to me that we, humans are generating terms like War Refugee, Climate Refugee etc. because of our behaviors. Another shocking fact for me is the revelation of the news that around 300,000 people die each year because of drought, floods and malnutrition which are ironically not considered “Climatic” problems by a lot of people. I didn’t know about this UN report and I am quite sure a lot of people are oblivious to this report as well which is surprising because we tend to keep ourselves updated about everything but Climate issue which says a lot about its insignificance in people’s mind.
