Inconveniences

I really like how Squarzoni went about explaining the various complications to renewable sources of energy. It gave me a better understanding of why the world is so affixed on this use of coal. It’s as if there is no win-win situation. Hydropower emits very few greenhouse gases, is relatively cheap and effective, but the dams built for it result in alterations to the landscape, floods to fertile lands, and the relocation of people. Wind and solar power are nonpolluting sources, but they are extremely dependent on the environment, an uncontrollable factor.

A major problem is that electricity cannot be stored or can only be stored in small quantities and at an expensive price. Creations for electrical would be extremely important for solar energy because there is a lot of it during the summer, but it’s more of a necessity during the winter. This all seems very complicated and it makes sense why people choose the easiest way to produce energy. However, that shouldn’t be an excuse.
