NYBG Trip Was Truly Worth It

The very first trip using my Macaulay Passport was to New York Botanical Garden with my Macaulay fellows and although the weather was not great, I still enjoyed the small trip because I found the garden to be very well groomed and beautiful. It is a great “getaway” from the city life because it lets one admire the beauty of nature. One of the things I liked about the garden was that it had a brief information about the type of plants and flowers which made the trip even more meaningful because along with admiring the beauty of nature, we also learnt a little about different plants. One of my friends pointed out towards rosemary plants, which is a common minty herb used by all of us and I thought it was really cool to see the actual plant and experience the strong, fresh scent of the herb we often use in our food. The architecture of the cafes is an art form itself because the cafes are incredibly beautiful. The garden shop is also fun to see because it has a lot of unique and beautiful ornamental plants such as mini red chilies.

Although the Queens botanical garden is a 10 minutes walk from my home, I never bothered to go there because I thought spending money on botanical gardens is not worth it but after this trip, I realized why so many people love going to botanical gardens. One of the disappointments was that we only got the general admission ticket which only restricted us to the grounds and we couldn’t enjoy any tram ride or exhibitions but I am still thankful to Macaulay for the passport which enables us to visit all these great places FREE OF COST!
