What are we even doing?
This chapter is definitely filled with contradictions, but what amuses me is the differences in actions that America makes. On pages 268 and 269, Squarzoni shows what the country has done that is truly confusing. One is that the US was the pioneer in environmental protection but was responsible for 30% of the greenhouse gases emission. Like What?
Our actions in “protecting” the environment is really nothing more than makeup for disguising our selfish ways of life. Frankly, its doubtful that we can even change this mindset even now. The idea that the environment can’t support us is disastrous and hard to imagine -But hey, we CAN still ignore it as long it doesn’t happen to us. I think Squarzoni points out that fact very clearly in this section.
