Justice Must Be Served
On Pg. 268-269 Squarzoni points out the American contradictions. He has 2 pgs full of contrasts. First we have 25% of the land labeled as protected territory but then we have 20% of the cars on the road that are SUVS and inefficient trucks.
In this chapter Squarzoni once again gives us the truth. We are a consumer society. We want what we want, when we want it. We don’t want to make sacrifices, and we are living a life of luxury. On pg. 264-265 Squarzoni makes the message clear that we cannot have or cakes and eat it too at this point in the game. Simply said it is time that we give up on these luxury items to enjoy later luxuries. There needs to be a time for constraint.
What really stood our to me in this chapter was pgs. 276-277 It actually made me sad to see that the countries that are causing global warming are not the ones paying for it. It is so unfair and upsetting that these power countries the US and Europe are adding to the destruction of our planet yet they won’t feel the blunt of it. While people in Africa will be suffering from severe droughts there will me more water in the power countries. It is saddening to hear that the people who really don’t deserve to feel the repercussions of climate change are the ones feeling it. I absolutely hate that. How will these power countries ever know what their doing is harming the environment if they can’t see it first hand? If it doesn’t directly impact their lives? This just gets me angry, and I want justice served. I want the power countries to feel the weight of their actions, to be impacted by their reckless decisions. After all, it’s only fair.
