The Beginning of the End of the World is Beginning

Squarzoni talks about the two threats that face humanity. At one end the threat of climate change is upon us, on the other end is the depletion of fossil fuels. Interestingly enough Squarzoni is standing on a bridge and is right in the middle. This drawing signifies the position humanity is in right now. There is no way of escaping what we have caused and we are stuck right there. In order to move forward we must focus and solve one of the problems coming our way. Squarzoni makes it clear that we cannot continue on this way, we must face the issue of climate change, because it has come to a point where there is no running away, both exits are blocked. Together both issues will destroy us.

What is really scary is that we don’t know whether we have reached a “peak” in climate change or not. There isn’t an exact meter for which we can measure, so we are left wondering and making assumptions. It is unfortunate to say that we won’t realize we’ve reached the peak until Mother Nature severely reacts, and by then it will be far too late for us to do anything about it. We can only assume that “The Beginning of the end of the world is beginning.” So we must brace ourselves.

Later on Squarzoni talks about the man and his parachute. This truly relates to climate change because we are falling, it is only a matter of time before we start asking ourselves “If only…If only” and by then we will have nowhere else to look but to the ground. Eventually we will have to face all the consequences to our actions.
