Musings on Fossil Fuels
Say we didn’t use fossil fuels. What energy could be used? Water power is a possibility – it emits few greenhouse gases, is cheap and effective. But dams displace people. Wind energy is also option – but it causes issues with landscape and bird migration. Solar energy? Another possibility – but what about during the nighttime and winter? What then?
There’s this image on page 329. A suburban couple fill their car – not with gas but with their baby’s blood. The baby looks like someone sucked its insides out with a straw. The couple is killing their baby to fulfill their own selfish desires. We are doing this to future generations.
Big energy companies own reusable energy but they do nothing to make them work. Will they ever?
On page 339, Squarzoni looks haunted. He is wringing his hands. His eyebrows are furrowed. He is worried, sleepless. An “inquisition” light is shining on him – doesn’t he know that uses a lot of energy? A cup of coffee in his hands, he is hunched over and looks defeated.
I really enjoyed the comic strips of fighting consumerism. I found it really humorous. However, I think Squarzoni went too far on pages 376 and 377. Camille (as a Xena impersonator) shoots down an army of Santas in a supermarket. Blood is sprayed everywhere as the Santas topple one by one as the soda bottles and cereal boxes bear witness. This shatters a great deal of childhood memories. I found it unnecessary.
