Looking Back
What will be doing when all the fuel finishes? How will all the machines work? Will we be able to go a day without fuel? Definitely not. These are some questions that we will probably be asking when the time comes. It is crazy to think such a time might come while we’re still alive.
The only thing we can do is too look back. We, or our future generations, are going to look back with contempt, regret, and disgust. We will think, “it was so obvious” or “wow, we really should have listened and changed our ways.” Like many, I really don’t want that to happen but it will, looking at the way we are using our fuels. On page 309, Squarzoni keeps on looking back at the man made out of things that is driving climate change while walking to the car on a precarious, narrow ladder.
The key quote on the pg is: “Humanity is caught between two threats. We’re confronted by an unprecedented climate crisis… and, at the same time, fossile furls are running out, and the engine of our growth threatens to grind to a halt.” We are trapped between two important situations/decisions. One drives another and both are needed. We say it’s really easy to change our ways. We think that “we can do this and that” but when it comes down to the end, we are saying “maybe it’s not possible.”
So what are we going to do when are looking back our past? What lies ahead of us?
