The plate finally breaks…

Finally we see on page 359 the emerging plate breaks. All this time the plate has been moving closer and closer to the edge of the table. Likewise, we have been moving closer and closer to the devastation that will be caused by climate change. Time stops for no one. If we do not act now, then when? After the plate breaks? Only then, Squarzoni states, does the idea of climate change “hit you fast and hard” (359). This is like the parachuter falling down. When will he reach the soils of our Earth?

Another image that strikes me was on page 373. In a previous post, I talked about how it was implied that to save our Earth we would have to hinder our use of technology. However, here Squarzoni mentions renewable energy as a solution that may not even call for us altering our daily use of technology. So maybe there is a happy ever after if the world just unites in seeking renewable energy sources. Perhaps this graphic memoir isn’t all that depressing!
