True Freedom
Sometimes I have memories of walking around the park and expressing my opinions in class. In a way, these actions- in fact, every action- is a gift; some countries may restrict their citizens from experiencing these things. In the U.S, we call this a basic right of freedom that every person is born with. But this creates a problem for the issue of climate change. What is considered freedom? Driving a car is a necessity especially for those with a job outside of their area. So much fossil fuels are being used but we can’t tell people, “Don’t drive, the world is at stake!”
But, perhaps, we might not have to stress over this question. Many people are skeptics of climate change. In fact, 41 percent of Americans are convinced that forecasts for global warming are exaggerated in 2013. 23 percent of people were unsure it’s even occurring at all and 6 percent were positive it is not. When our class was introduced to climate change some of us originally felt doubtful whether climate change exists or not. But after the cold hard facts, we changed our minds. Maybe we don’t have to worry about taking someone’s freedom when she or he is willingly making sacrifices for climate change. “THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!”
