Blind Batting
A few things stood out to me in this section. First, it is the accumulation of graphs and information on pages 272 and 273. They include data from pages 167, 178, 179, and more. It is literally an illustration of the overwhelming amount of evidence we are currently analyzing of climate change. It creates a powerful image of a computer malfunctioning, about to blow up.
I also found the topic of conflicts between the rich and poor to be true— it is already predominant in today’s culture, and will only get worse in the future. Violence will rule the world. The particular picture of the plate on page 281 shows the plate finally pushed off the table, the point in which we will be unaware of reaching. Even though we won’t see it coming, we will definitely feel its impacts. “The 21st century looks like it’s going to be a hot one.” A dramatic play on words, but there is much truth behind it.
We are very hypocritical, and we witness rivers drying up and admire them in awe. “We’ve created a monster!” refers to Frankenstein, because we meant to create something amazing with civilization and technology but instead, we’ve created something that can destroy us. And a monster is just that—something that creates fear. However, we don’t notice it as stated on page 294, which is exactly the same page that appeared earlier (repetition for emphasis). We are drowning slowly and we can’t even tell. We’re too busy watching TV (all the pictures Squarzoni has created).
