Dreams

This section had some hilarious graphics. It was about superheroes and saving the world, but the themes looked like they came out of someone’s dreams (or nightmares). The funniest picture was on page 277, when the Santa Claus’ were portrayed as villains killed by gunshot. When we think about renewable resources and reducing consumption, we are thinking of heroic deeds, as illustrated on page 374, with the anime-looking sword slaughter of the consumption iron-man. I think that is Squarzoni’s girlfriend. She is chosen to be a muse because she is a normal person who has a close relationship with Squarzoni, therefore if she can be a life saver, we can, too. I also like how Squarzoni goes back and forth between weird visions and informative lectures.

On page 368 is another picture that looks like it came out of a nightmare. What is Santa Claus doing? He is supposed to good, yet he is amidst chaos. Something’s not right here. It makes me feel like Santa leads a double life. He gives us what we want, but he also works with the things that destroys us. Our own wishes are our shortcomings. (Be careful what you wish for!) On page 359 is the picture of the plate again, except this time, it is shattered. Our stable weather is completely gone, and we don’t know what we’ll do without it. It is an idea that we think will last forever, but we take it for granted. On page 360 is a picture of Squarzoni floating in space with what I think is Earth in the background. It reminds me of the parachute guy. He is thinking, “If only I had done it right earlier.” On page 354 is another funny picture; smiley faces on nuclear power plants. It’s funny how we twist our words and our perception on things just to get what we want. When we manipulate ourselves just for pleasure, we become blind. We lose our moral paths and our rationalities. This section is about the end, but it feels like it’s just the beginning of a new era.
