Greek Myths at the Met

20141123_145141 So on Sunday, I took a trip to the Met after finishing up at the New York Historical Society. WE GET IN FOR FREE GUYS! I was so happy. Granted it would have been a better experience if I was with people, but I think I was able to better appreciate the art. As sad as that sounds. But I found this sculpture close to the American Wing and I got so happy when I saw it. It’s a sculpture of Cupid and Psyche. This is my favorite myth. It’s been a while since I read it, but basically Psyche was really beautiful and people even went so far as to say she was more beautiful than Aphrodite. So being the spiteful bitch that she is, Aphrodite got angry and sent her poor son(CUPID!!) to make Psyche fall in love with a terrible monster. But instead of doing what he was told, he falls in love with her instead. They were basically the original Beauty and the Beast and that’s my favorite Disney Princess movie. I love this story so much! Anyway, after much flailing over this piece of art, I proceeded to get lost because of course I neglected to get a map and the place is HUGE! I was there for a good hour and a half, pondering life and all of the things a cultured intellectual would. There was another sculpture titled “Victory.” It was a winged figure holding a palm frond. The way she was sculpted was to portray victory, but the look on her face showed guilt. It reminded me a lot of something I read where there is remorse in victory. Almost as if feeling sorry for the lives that were lost in order to get you to this point. It was a really beautiful piece and I wish I had a picture, but my phone was dying. Story of my life >.<

Update: Three down! and No more to go!!
