How long? Not long.
The overall tone that I got from this article by Al Gore is that of optimism. It was difficult to be on the same page with Gore (I mean we just finished Squarzoni, can you blame me?). He started by saying that “In the struggle to solve the climate crisis, a powerful, largely unnoticed shift is taking place…. it is now clear that we will ultimately prevail”. Upon reading this I gave chuckled and rolled my eyes. That was a bold thing for Gore to say but ultimately he backed up what he said with a substantial amount of information by detailing the steps that are being taken to better climate change, perhaps even stop it all together. It appears that while we have been focusing on much of the negative aspect of climate change I have been ignoring all of the good that has been prevailing from the shadows. That is not to say that Squarzoni is doing a terrible job by focusing on the bad side of climate change because ultimately we wouldn’t know how great the things Al Gore is saying is happening if we didn’t know how bad it is and could get for us (so thank you Squarzoni). Squarzoni has instilled the fear in us and now Gore wants to give us a renewed sense of hope. Everything that is being done to turn to alternative energy is substantial, crucial and apparently working, the oil tycoons and billionaires like the Koch brothers who profit from hurting our planet have started to cringe from all the good that is happening and from all the money that is going towards renewable energy and not their pockets. Though we have been looking at much of the negative and irreversible damage we have done it is time to start looking ahead and taking action so that we don’t dig ourselves a deeper hole. When the U.S needed the entire countries help during World War II everyone responded, the country changed their focus and banded together to help practically overnight so why can’t we do that again? Lets start acting. If we start acting NOW how long will it take to solve the climate crisis? Not long.
