Multilayered Art Form
“Its tough to be interested in that which you not understand.” (pg 7)
I think this quote resonates with pretty much every situation in life. It’s hard to be interested in something that is unfamiliar. I feel the same way towards the opera. Much like Ann Patchette in the beginning of this reading, I am clueless when it comes to opera. The stereotypical screaming old lady appears in my mind when it’s mentioned. However, after reading this section, I realize opera is a “multilayered art form” (pg 9). Pachette’s reverence towards opera is much like a rose bud blooming. The more Patchette delved into the meaning of opera, the more she saw the beauty of it. I wish I could understand and appreciate it as much as she would, on the 18th. I look forward to opera presentation to shed more light on this interesting art form. Looks like I have some research to do. Can’t wait for the 18th!
