Make Way
After Snapshot day, I had the privilege of looking around the other galleries in the NY Historical Museum. One picture that caught my attention was this one:
Most of the pictures didn’t have names so I’m not sure what the name of this is. It caught my eye because of all the chaos going on. There are so many things happening in the painting but it’s not overwhelming. Instead I want to know what is going on, I want to find out the problem each person is facing. I wish there was a little note about the painting, but since there wasn’t I just discussed most of what I saw with Eli and we asked each other questions.
On the low right side there is a boy holding up a wanted sign for a man, I couldn’t help wondering if the wanted man was somewhere in the crowd, hidden between the chaos.I tried to look for him, but quickly realized that almost all the men looked the same.
In the left corner a wounded soldier is being carried onto a cart. Almost in the middle two newspaper boys who look very young are on the floor.
I wanted to know what happened to them, did someone push them over? How did they end up on the floor?
After looking at the painting for a while, and discussing it, I came up with the conclusion that the army(not sure from where) was invding this country and everyone who is currently in the marketplace is in a rush to get home, or get out of their way. The people clearly fear and respect this military, everything and everyone is in an uproar as they try to clear the path and make a way for these men.
